季戊四醇及其衍生物是良好的辅助热稳定剂,加入PVC中,可与锌皂/钙皂发生协同作用,抑制“锌烧”现象。季戊四醇主要用在涂料工业中，可用以制造醇酸树脂涂料，能使涂料膜的硬度、光泽和耐久性得以改善。也用作色漆、清漆和印刷油墨等所需的松香脂的原料，并可制干性油、阴燃性涂料和航空润滑油等。此外，还用于医药、农药等生产。季戊四醇分子中含有四个等同的羟甲基，具有高度的对称性，因此常被用作多官能团化合物的制取原料。由它硝化可以制得季戊四醇四硝酸酯，是一种烈性炸药；酯化可得季戊四醇三丙烯酸酯，用作涂料。也可用作胶黏剂的阻燃剂，与聚磷酸铵配合可得膨胀型阻燃剂。也用作聚氨酯的交联剂，提供聚氨酯内的支链。

When added to PVC, they can synergize with zinc soap/calcium soap to inhibit "zinc burning" phenomenon.Pentaerythritol is mainly used in the coating industry to produce alkyd resin coatings, which can improve the hardness, gloss and durability of coating film.It is also used as a raw material of rosin resin required for paints, varnishes and printing inks, and can be made into dry oil, smoldering coatings and aviation lubricants.In addition, it is also used in the production of medicines and pesticides.Pentaerythritol contains four equivalent hydroxymethyl groups and has high symmetry, so it is often used as a raw material for preparing multifunctional compounds.It can be nitrified to prepare pentaerythritol tetranitrate, a kind of high explosive; esterification to obtain pentaerythritol triacrylate, used as paint.It can also be used as a flame retardant of adhesives and can be combined with ammonium polyphosphate to obtain intumescent flame retardant.It is also used as a crosslinking agent in polyurethanes to provide branched chains within the polyurethane.
